Logo

Today I attempted to design my logo. It was difficult. I found it hard to draw anything today. Not sure why. We tried a few different techniques.

1. Don't take the pencil off the page: It was tough, but this is where i made my only good logo. However it really needs improvement.

2. Only use Helvetica; I had a few ideas, but there were technical difficulties and I did not manage to get anything this round.

3. Only an image: This was the most versatile idea. I found it really difficult. Unable to draw anything good, I did not make it beyond scribbles, but I did come up with a tribal like symbol involving a X and a M over each other looking a little bit like a *.

Possible FMP

I had some ideas for short films however I don't think I can finish the stories for my concepts, they are rather...ambitious. A common theme is mixing the real world with something not ordinary.

I could do a comic. I have already been working on a comic since last year. If I can finish up my plots and the basics I could use this project i would of done in my free time for my college work. However I don't want to ruin my comic by making me keep to deadlines etc a would rather put all the time I want into it. However I have already made so much progress on the comic, not comic-wise but preproduction-wise so it may be good to use this already developed project. Plus I have a love and passion for the project already, although admittedly a love hate relationship in my pursuit of perfection, which is not helpful.

However my work on the comic is slow, and often tied to my mood. Such a inconsistent level of work from none to piles of work completed may not be effective for a FMP... But if I am on a work streak, it would work very well.

I can consider these ideas, but I must decide soon or I am screwed.

BURN OUT SCRIPT BENCH + treatment

Main character sat on bus at front. From side. Head down, space on left for title. Brings head up. Far shot of the camera solid follow the bus turning. Far out of Bus sopping. Character gets off. Walking head on, slow zoom in. Narration with chatroom text. Shots of hands typing, shot to show its main character, shot of loads of stuff writen on hands, directsions, what not to say, make, do not trustthem in bold visible. Back to head on, character makes sure to cover their hand covered in pen.

Gets to bench. Sits, on edge, needs to breath.

MEssage, says, I am here. Where are you?

repply, I can see you. Thats all you need to know

Is this a trick? Wheres the info?

I have it. But are you sure you want it.
You know what they will do once they know its with you.

A shot to show mains stress.
Looks around, and keeps phone close. Colar pull, fidget, teeth, breath in.

Yes.

You are ready. Its under the bench.

Shot to underneath, as a hand grabs it.

Exit. Leave on a tense cliffhanger.

DOnt use text messages unless you show the other person. Its hard to show well. If people wanted to read, they would read a book not watch a film.

2.

One on bench. Waiting. Other shows up. Sits. Looks around, obviously on edge.

Incoming: Do, do you have it?

Outgoing: Password.

Outgoing; Password. I have to be sure your legit.

Incoming; Uhh...Password?

Outgoing: Correct.

Shocked, hides his shock.  Turns around, fist to moth. eyes wide.

INcoming: So so do you have it?

Outgoing: Have what?

INcoming: (Nervous on edge, shocked, has to whisper, pshing out the words.) The usb!

OUtgoing: Oh that. Nope.

Incoming: What!? (even more shocked)

Outgoing: Are you a counter spy? (serious), eyes shift to incoming. Very overly dramatic.

Incoming:...No? out it squeeked

Outgoing: Well thats Good. That would be quite bad.

Incoming: Yeah, yeah it would.( hand behind head, relived. )

Outgoing: But...what if I WAS THE COUNTER SPY?!

Incoming: Then..then... (sweat)

Outgoing: Then if you were also a counter spy, everything would be fine. :) We would be on the same team.

Incoming: Yeah, yeah right. (Really confused and nervous now. ) Thinks: SO what is he actually?  A spy or a counter spy? Is he trying to send a message to me, or catch me out as a counter spy? Is he even a spy?

Outcoming: But then if I was the counterspy and you were not, you would be in trouble.

Icoming: Yes, yes I would.

Outgoing: But you know what would be worse?

Incoming: What?

Outgoing: If I was a counter-counter spy? What then eh?

Incoming: Then...Then if I was a counter spy I guess I would have a bad time.

Outcoming: Yes, you would.

Incoming: Yes I would.

...

Outgoing: Well good thing your not a counter spy!

Incoming: And good thing your not a counter counter spy!

Outgoing: Very true.

Incoming: Yeah! So where's the stick if you don't have it?

Outgoing: (Relaxed arms back.) Under that bench. All you have to do is turn around and get it.

Incoming; Alright.

Gets up, hand in jacket.

Incoming: Hands up busta, I know your a counter spy!

Outgoing: Shock!

Incoming: I'm a counter-counter spy!

Outgoing: But thats where your wrong!

blends into (Montage of counter spies showing up. Dozens of voices growing keep saying counter.)

Builds up with a cresendo.

Ends with all at night trying to keep track of the spies. Trying to figure out who has the upper hand.

One says. Enough counters. I'm going home.

Wait....That means if we can figure out what counter that guy is, we can find out who isnt being countered on our team. That means that we are now un-countered!

No! turns head Come back!

No, im going home....

...

Both crowds stare.

Hey! Im an ultimate spy of the 3rd spy faction! I counter you all!

ALL SHOCK.

Dont be so sure of yourself! Im a ultimate counter spy and I-

Another pops out slowmo on head.

Back to the Ultimate counter spy. Oh shit.

le End. "Not this again."

Sounds: Need music rising, as well as the montage.

Elephant sounds, duck sounds, piano deep, ways to show shock, using louder animals to show they counter the other.

Get shot of sunrise either by myself, or use free one.

Sounds for over dramatic movements.

foley and wild tracks. leaves , traffic. Crikkets.

Treatment

Synopsis

2 spies meet at a bench to exchange an usb stick with information on cold fusion.

They begin to doubt each others credibility before engaging in combat, with the help of their other operatives.

After an intense race war, one of the spies decides to go home, leaving his team at a disadvantage.

Finally both teams are put in danger after a secret 3rd spy army shows up, ready to demolish them all.

Location. In the park, on the bench. Needs depth, as well as a easy exit point and movement in the background, thats interesting enough.

Day and Night filming in the same location, for the effect of time passing/has passed.

Camera
Close ups showing small details. Also wide shots to give perspective and making it clear when the characters are after a close up.

Styles of directing

The dictator
In this style of directing, the director has a strongly assertive role and is very dominant in the process of creating a theatrical work. Rehearsals are more or less fully controlled and predictable, with the actors having little or no say.
The negotiator
‘The negotiator‘ is a style of direction in which the director focuses on a more improvised and mediated form of rehearsal and creation, using the ideas of the production team and actors to shape a theatrical work in quite a democratic style.
The creative artist
The director sees himself or herself as a creative artist working with the ‘materials’ of dramatic creativity, be they the actors, designers and production team. The “creative artist” wants input from the actors but, as artist, has final say over what is included and how ideas are incorporated.
The confrontationalist
In this style of directing, the director is in constant dialogue and debate with the cast and the production team about creative decisions and interpretations. The director seeks out and actively engages in such exchanges. Out of these exchanges, which can sometimes be heated or risky, comes a final contested product

1) The “Technical” Director
This director spends most of his time with the crew on the technical aspects of the shot and scene. He spends very little time with the actors (giving direction). He may just want to “let the actors do their thing” or he may not know how to successfully communicate with an actor.
2) The “Performance” Director
This director works with and understands the actor and the “acting process” but he also spends time with the technical aspects of the shot and scene.
3) The “New” Director
This director is someone who knows “a little about something but not enough of the entire job of directing.” These directors work in other areas of the business and get a “shot” at directing (Ex: producer, writer, 1AD, editor, actor, DOP)

Lookbook Feedback

Overall I agree with every point. Once I returned to my Lookbook it became apparent I was using the wrong models. It was painfully obvious, but I was too late to change it. It makes sense that my brand is directed towards children. Overall nobody would wear these shirts themselves, but would recommend the shirts to a younger sibling or friend, (apart from 2 special cases who were overwhelmingly for the whole brand in every category) which makes sense; college age students are not my target audience.

Most people agree that they like the designs. One said they liked the consistency of the Dinosaur, which is what I was shooting for, as there is no real logo, but the image would suffice. Another said they did not enjoy the crudeness of the designs and I wholeheartedly agree. If this was real brand, the designs would be done professionally.

The majority of applicants would not buy or wear the designs, which is understandable, they are not the target audience.

Most people would recommend the brand to a younger sibling or friend, although two applicants liked it themselves, which is anomalous, but will be kept in mind.

Almost everyone said the Lookbook needed work, and so did all the images. The Lookbook itself is very boring, and poorly done. It says nothing about the brand. The images are stretched and second source and it is immediately apparent, which is not a surprise. The layout was cheap and boring and brings nothing new or unique to the market. Some people would like more text, and I did consider this, however I decided that the designs were paramount and should have the spotlight, however text would of been an easy way to show my motives and explain myself and the brand. And if we consider that the brand would be directed towards children, less writing, the better. Children prefer pictures to reading, at least the majority do.

The spreadsheet needed work as well, which no doubt effected the audience. Some things had been effective, such as colour differentiation keeping information apart, and the frozen top row. However I did not provide a clear way to write long answers, and that really let the whole thing down. One the the biggest mistakes to make is making a questionnaire a pain to do.

Overall the response was what I expected, but there have been some unexpected answers as well. With this information I have clearly identified my target audience, but also a possible niche (of course this needs more research as they may of been joking) with people who are obviously more carefree then the average college student. If I was to work on the designs, and conduct more research I may be able to sell to both children and young adults, if I play my cards right.

The questionnaire was very helpful for me and the brand. With this information I can really improve and cut down on all the brands shortcomings.
